Webinfosys's Entertainment News : General Disney News
NY Daily News - Children's Place, operator of the Disney Store clothing chain, rose more than 5% after Fortune reported the company is up for sale.
Shares of Children's Place, down 62% this year, gained $1.17 to $23.92 yesterday.
The retailer hired investment bank Peter J. Solomon to advise it on a potential sale, Fortune said on its Web site, citing two people familiar with the situation. But Solomon spokeswoman Diane Coffey said in an e-mail yesterday that the firm hadn't been hired. Kathy Reitz, a Fortune spokeswoman, didn't have an immediate comment. Children's Place did not respond to requests for comment on the possible sale.
The report came after Children's Place CEO Ezra Dabah resigned at the board's request last month. This week, the company's auditor quit, and the retailer reduced its annual profit forecast.
Besides a slowdown in consumer traffic at its stores, the company faces a number of challenges, such as remodeling Disney locations on schedule, finding a new CEO, addressing pending lawsuits and completing Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
The Disney sites, which sell Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse and Cinderella toys and clothing, account for a third of the retailer's revenue. Children's Place also operates 889 stores under its name.
Webinfosys's Entertainment News : Here comes the Prince
This must be your umpteenth interview... There must have been 2000 already. So what have you been asked?
How it feels to become an actor.. about the RK legacy.. about Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali.. about the great expectations.. about the pressure.. about Sonam.
Everyone's been very nice and sweet.. but by now, I hope I'm not sounding like a stuck record.. or a voice-machine.
How do you react when you wake up one morning to be described as a gay icon?(Smiling awkwardly) I accept that as a compliment the way I would if a girl had said something sweet to me. Whatever one's sexual preference may be, that is an accepted norm in today's society .
When I was studying cinema at New York's School of Visual Arts and later at the Lee Strasberg Studio, some of the guys were gay. It was no big deal. Randy Salo who made a short film called Barbarian Invasions, is gay, and one of the most brilliant minds I've met.
At the school, did you act in and direct short films?
Yes, they had titles like Passion to Love, Undeclared Love.. and I Fall Asleep. I really liked Undeclared Love in which a boy loves a girl silently.. and discovers that she loved him too.. but only at her gravestone. After three years of studies in America, I wanted to come back.. and I did.
Which was the first film ever offered to you?
(Shyly) Funny, you should ask me this. You offered me Fiza. I didn't know whether I wanted to become an actor or director then. I'd loved Devdas.. I assisted on Black.. and I'll be honest, I kept wondering why Mr Bhansali doesn't offer me a role in one of his projects?
Is it true that you quit as assistant director because Mr Bhansali slapped you.. or threw a cell phone at you?
Nothing like that ever happened. He doesn't ever get angry without a reason. He can shout at you when you're goofing up. After Black, he asked Sonam and me to do a photo-session.. we were the first choices for Saawariya.
To come to your parents now.. how's it been to be the son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor?
With dad, there has been a middle ground.. we are as friendly as a father and son can be. I'm scared of his I-won't-take-nonsense-from anyone personality. Mum's my best friend.. I can tell her about my dark side, about my girfriends, anything.
There was a period when they nearly split.. did that affect you?
That affected me big time. My sister (Ridhima) was out of town. I would sit on the stairs alone and wish that they wouldn't say things to each other which they didn't mean.
And see, they came through that difficult period. I really believe their love is forever.. I can feel the intensity, the depth of the love my dad has for mum.
Webinfosys's Entertainment News : Advocates Fight Segway Ban at Florida Parks
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Advocates for the disabled want two theme parks to lift a ban on Segways, saying the scooters give people who can't walk a degree of freedom not afforded by wheelchairs.
Some employees at Walt Disney World use Segways, but officials at that park and SeaWorld Orlando said the two-wheeled scooters could be dangerous if used by visitors.
"We're not turning people away," said Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty. "We're turning away a particular form of transportation."
Disability Rights Advocates for Technology, which raises money to donate Segways to disabled U.S. military veterans and pushes for their acceptance, is asking the parks to lift the ban.
Many people who use prosthetics, and people who can stand but can't easily walk — such as many people with multiple sclerosis — find Segways offer more mobility and dignity than wheelchairs, said group co-founder Jerry Kerr, 52.
Disney has put many of its employees on Segways, but officials said they see serious safety concerns if untrained visitors ride the scooters on the same crowded walkways as toddlers, the elderly and other people with disabilities.
They also worry because Segways can go faster than 12 mph, they say.
SeaWorld spokeswoman Becca Bides said the park had similar concerns.
Messages left for Segway, based in Bedford, N.H., were not immediately returned Saturday.
Universal Orlando permits disabled riders on Segways on a case-by-case basis, park officials said.
